Iran’s Administration Considers Reviving Commerce Ministry

Iran’s Administration Considers Reviving Commerce Ministry
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s administration is considering restoring the ministry of commerce, which was dissolved by the previous administration six years ago.

Tasnim  News Agency

In a letter to the parliament on June 7, the administration submitted a bill proposing that the ministry of commerce should be again brought into existence as an independent organization.

The previous administration dissolved the ministry in August 2011, deciding that it should coalesce with the Ministry of Industries and Mines to form the new Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade.

The commerce ministry was the main administrative organization regulating and implementing the policies for domestic and foreign trade.

The cabinet has submitted the new plan to the parliament as a “double urgency” bill. It seems that restoration of the commerce ministry is not going to face any serious opposition in the legislature either.

President Rouhani, who won a second term in the May 19 elections, is going to form his cabinet in August.
